Keyboard access
Interactive controls require visible focus, logical tab order, Enter/Space activation and Escape behaviour for overlays. Search and lists provide non-map access to records.
Accessibility
Mineral intelligence should not depend on being able to use a mouse on a map.
ZimMineral Atlas is being designed toward WCAG 2.2 AA. The map is a core interface, but it must always have equivalent search, list and structured-content routes so users are not excluded by pointer, visual, motor or motion requirements.
Visual accessibility
Information should not rely on colour alone. Contrast, labels, marker treatment and readable typography must work together, including at high zoom.
Assistive technology
Semantic landmarks, labelled controls, status announcements and structured dossiers are required so screen-reader users can understand updates without interpreting the visual map.
Multiple interaction modes
Map, list and split views provide equivalent discovery routes. Gesture-only interactions should always have a button or keyboard alternative.
Accessibility quality gate
Commercial launch should not rely on a statement alone. Keyboard-only use, screen-reader semantics, 200% zoom, 320px layouts, focus visibility, reduced motion, contrast and touch targets should be tested and remediated continuously.
Current target: WCAG 2.2 AA. Any accessibility issue found during testing should be treated as a product defect, not deferred as optional polish.
